A benefit for the music and arts programs.
You won't want to miss this great event at the Courtyard at Kihei Charter School.
Jimmy Vavino, best known for serving 26 years as Conan O’Brien’s musical director, guitarist and bandleader, his experience in the music business predates that by 20 plus years. He has always considered himself “a blues man with a job”. Jimmy has produced, lead bands and recorded with a countless number rock and roll and blues artists for five decades including the likes of Hubert Sumlin, Warren Haynes, Bob Weir, Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, Johnnie Johnson, Son Seals, Shemekia Copeland, Levon Helm, Phoebe Snow, Dion, Laura Nyro, Bob Margolin, Lowell Fulson, John Sebastian, Joe Louis Walker and Al Kooper to name a few.
Joining Vavino is Colin John, born in Ohio, he spent his youth in Memphis, picking up guitar by accident. After graduating from Ohio University, Colin turned pro. Answering an ad in The Village Voice, he landed the guitar spot with the NYC based Little Mike and The Tornadoes. Discouraged after a hurricane stranded them in Florida, the threesome went their separate ways. He ended up playing lead in the house band on Saturday afternoons at B.B. Kings’ Beale Street club, and would often back visiting artists from Hank Ballard to James Cotton to Pinetop Perkins and Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. Reconnecting with his European roots, Colin moved to London in 1993 and spent ten years in the U.K., forming the Colin John Band and working with some veteran musicians. Since forming The Colin John Band, the group has played extensively in England, the USA, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Canada, Belgium, Denmark and Spain.
The lovely lady of the evening joining our show is Sheryl Renee. She is known as the "Lady with the Golden Voice", for over 40 years, Sheryl's gift of song has led to wonderful opportunities. She got her professional start working with Moment's Notice/Jerry Barnett Orchestra and from there, she never looked back! Her career highlight, was performing the national anthem for President Barack Obama, featured and support vocals for countless bands, orchestras, events, projects, and sharing creative time with some of the greatest names in show biz, including Candi Staton, Larry Dunn, Freda Payne, String Cheese Incident, The Contribution and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra conducted by the late Marvin Hamlisch. Other notable musical relationships are her vocal group the Black Swan Singers and Co-producing shows since 1999 with Arts Education for Children Group in Maui HI.
Saturday, February 18th the doors open 4:30pm and show ends at 8:30pm.
